Call, interactive sound sculpture (2022)
About the Project
Call is the proof of concept for an interactive sound sculpture, and a project that I want to expand on soon. The idea is very simple: an object in disguise, in this case a flower arrangement, is inconspicuously placed close to where people would walk by. Upon detecting movement, the sculpture "calls them" through sound coming from a hidden speaker.
As the person approaches the sculpture, the sound gets louder, that being an invitation for interaction. If the person touches the plant, the call has been accepted and another sonic feedback is played.
From then on, the person would luckily realize that different parts of the plant being touched result in different sounds, and there are hidden sounds that can be achieved if certain parts are touched in the right order (almost like a puzzle).
Other kinds of feedback can be added, such as LEDs that will turn up once the person touches the sculpture for the first time. Smaller (and better built) flower arrangements can be placed in the hallway of museums or in waiting rooms, and the project could also be scaled up to take a whole garden, making it an installation of sonic puzzles.
